Hi. My name is Kim Mitchell, and my husband’s name is Will. Our son, Gareth is 19. He is on the spectrum, but also has other mental/cognitive developmental disabilities. We moved here from Nebraska a couple months ago, and are wondering if there are any social groups available for young adults and their families. For instance, back home, there was a teen/young adult hangout night once a month through the Autism Society of Nebraska. There were activities provided, but kids could just hang out together and get to know each other, and the parents could as well. (A parent or guardian we’re required to accompany their young person to provide support.) All three of us are looking to make friends in our new home, and though we know there probably isn’t much going on during COVID now, we are hoping there will be something available once things get going again.
Thank you,
Kim
